A self-managed single exercise programme versus usual physiotherapy treatment for rotator cuff tendinopathy: a randomised controlled trial (the SELF study). Littlewood C et al. Clin Rehabil. 2016;30(7):686-96
Patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy can improve by performing just one resisted shoulder exercise prescribed by a physical therapist (with elastic band or dumbbell, 3 sets of 10-15, twice a day) based on their most symptomatic movement; there was no difference compared to traditional physical therapy in this randomized controlled trial.
Physiotherapy after subacromial decompression surgery: development of a standardised exercise intervention. Christiansen DH et al Physiotherapy. 2015;101(4):327-39.
The authors published a rehab protocol for their study on physiotherapy after arthroscopic subacromial decompression based on the literature and expert recommendation, featuring shoulder pulley and TheraBand exercises for home training.

Shoulder pulleys are safe and effective when initiated 6 weeks after rotator cuff repair. There is no difference in range of motion, strength or scapular substitution if pulleys are incorporated in the rehab or not.
Effectiveness of scapula-focused approaches in patients with rotator cuff related shoulder pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Bury J et al. 2016. Man Ther. Sep;25:35-42.
This meta analysis of 4 studies (including 3 using elastic resistance) suggested that scapula-focused approaches to rotator cuff rehabilitation are beneficial up to 6 weeks.
Effects of elastic band exercise on subjects with rounded shoulder posture and forward head posture. Kim TW et al. J Phys Ther Sci. 2016 Jun;28(6):1733-7.
12 subjects with forward head and rounded shoulder posture completed an exercise program (of unknown length) using elastic bands for 3 sets of 15 (of unknown resistance) and noted improvements.

A School-Based Injury Prevention Program to Reduce Sport Injury Risk and Improve Healthy Outcomes in Youth: A Pilot Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial. Richmond SA et al. Clin J Sport Med. 2016;26(4):291-8
A 12-week high-intensity neuromuscular training program (including wobble boards and foam pads) reduced risk of sports injury and improved fitness in young students (11-15 years old)
Effects of training against elastic resistance on jab punch performance in elite junior athletes. Markovic P. Kinesiology 48(1):79-86.
Boxing athletes that added an elastic resistance jab exercise to their normal training routine for 6 weeks had significant improvement in punching performance.
Kinesiology Taping & Rigid Taping Research
Comparing adhesion over five days between three brands of elastic therapeutic tape. (Abstract). Etnoyer-Slaski JL et al. J Athl Train. 2016. 51(6):S75-8.
TheraBand Kinesiology tape provides significantly better adhesion over 5 days compared to KT Tape and Kinesiotape.
Effect of taping on foot kinematics in persons with chronic ankle instability. Deschamps K. J Sci Med Sport. 2016;19(7):541-6
Low-dye taping should not be used on patients with chronic ankle instability. Instead, a traditional ankle taping is recommended for better biomechanics of the ankle.

Patients with chronic low back pain performing exercises and receiving manual therapy did not benefit in pain or disability from 2 days of kinesiology taping after 5 weeks.
Kinesio Taping does not improve the symptoms or function of older people with knee osteoarthritis: a randomised trial. Wageck B et al.J Physiother. 2016;62(3):153-8.
76 patients with knee osteoarthritis received one of 4 different kinesiology taping techniques or sham taping; after 4 days of wearing the tape, there were no differences between groups in strength, swelling, or pain.

Rigid taping of patients with chronic ankle instability improves self efficacy and confidence in daily tasks, but does not affect performance.

TheraBand CLX provides similar torque (strength curves) as isotonic resistance, and exhibits hysteresis (less torque) eccentrically.

Researchers demonstrated a progressive increase in core muscle activation in different positions with and without an exercise ball.
A Dyadic Exercise Intervention to Reduce Psychological Distress Among Lesbian, Gay, and Heterosexual Cancer Survivors. Kamen C et al. LGBT Health. 2016 3(1):57-64.
This pilot study found exercise program including TheraBand called “EXCAP” can reduce psychological distress in lesbian and gay cancer survivors.

Kidney (ESRD) patients performed 12 weeks of resistance training including TheraBand elastic tubing while receiving dialysis 3 times per week. They improved in lower body strength (not upper), and in quality of life.

Chronic low back pain patients receiving instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) for 4 weeks had more pain relief and increase in ROM than a control group receiving general exercise.

4 sets of 15 seconds of foam rolling the quadriceps maintains muscle stiffness and contraction time in soccer players.
The Effect of Compression Stockings on Physiological and Psychological Responses after 5-km Performance in Recreationally Active Females. Treseler C et al. J Strength Cond Res. 2016 Jul;30(7):1985-91.
Recreationally active females ran 5K either with or without lower leg compression stockings. They experienced less muscle soreness in their lower extremities (but not their calves) after wearing the compression stockings compared to without. There was no difference in performance.

In a study supported by Performance Health, kinesiology tape or a compression sleeve applied to the thigh do not improve balance or muscle activation after quadriceps muscle fatigue.

After analyzing several studies (including some using elastic resistance), an expert group recommended both hip and knee strengthening exercises for patellofemoral pain, but were uncertain of recommending patellar taping.

The authors pooled outcomes data on hip arthroscopy patients to support their post-operative protocol.
